Judo is a Japanese and Olympic martial art (jūdō, literally “gentle way”) whose principle is “winning by yielding” or “maximum efficiency with minimum effort.”
Judo is not only a way to keep physically fit, but also a philosophy for personal development. A Judo master practices Judo in this sense even when not inside the training hall (Jap. Dōjō) Two philosophical principles form the essential foundation of Judo: mutual help and understanding for the progress and well-being of both partners (jita kyōei, 自他共栄)and the best possible use of body and mind (seiryoku zen’yō, 精力善用).
This is reflected in the ten Judo values of the Deutscher Judo-Bund, which we also embrace.
