Always stay focused on what you’re doing. Develop a positive training attitude and practice diligently.
MODESTY
Don’t put yourself in the spotlight. Don’t boast about your success or exaggerate. Look up to those who are better than you, and not down on those who haven’t reached your level yet.
COURAGE
Have the courage to face challenges — in randori, in competition, and in life. Never give up, not even when facing an imminent defeat or a seemingly overwhelming opponent.
HONESTY
Always be honest and fight fairly, without unsportsmanlike actions or hidden motives.
HELPFULNESS
Always be helpful to others: support younger or less experienced training partners. Help them learn techniques correctly and find their way in the group.
SELF-CONTROL
Always be punctual and disciplined — in training, in competition, and in life. Never lose your self-control on the mat, not even in situations that may seem unfair to you.
APPRECIATION
Acknowledge the achievements of others when they make a sincere effort according to their abilities.
POLITENESS
Treat your training partners, opponents, and fellow people as friends. Show your respect to every judoka through a proper bow.
Respect
Treat everyone with respect. Always be polite to your teachers and judo friends, and recognize the achievements of others.
Friendship
If you live by these values and treat all people with respect, you will find friends not only in judo.
